The oldest Medical Institution of India (IPGMER & SSKM Hospital) should have a standard journal of international repute (Annals of Medical Science and Research), that can lead the academy of Medical & allied science globally as well as national & state level. It will provide a platform to the clinicians of diverse experiences researchers of IPGMER to share their clinical and research experiences to the outer world. Hence the idea of publication of a journal Annals of Medical Science and Research (AMSR) came through the vision of the Director of the institute, Prof. (Dr.) Manimoy Bandyopadhyay and approved by the College Council of the institute.

ndia being a multiethnic, multiracial country harbours galaxies of disease states and cases of diverse variation, pattern, distinction and severity; which does not always follow the copybook pattern of the western textbooks, possess challenges and opportunity before the Indian doctors. There is a burning need of systemic documentation and scientific medical data harvesting in this part of the world.

Regular publication of research findings becomes mandatory as eligibility criteria for teaching career. AMSR is an active platform for publication of the basic & clinical research studies of the young and promising teachers of medical education. This will fulfill their career need and will generate adequate numbers of appropriately qualified teachers to be appointed as faculties of medical education in various hierarchical strata.

There are plenty of examples of reputed journals published from medical institutions in the country. Some examples are (a) The National Medical Journal of India or NMJI was initiated by Faculties of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, (b) Journal of Postgraduate Medicine (JPGM) of Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, (c) D Y Patil Journal of Health Sciences and Medical Journal of D Y Patil Vidyapeeth, (d) Indian Journal of Community and Family Medicine, published by AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, (e) Journal of Medical Evidence from AIIMS, Rishikesh, (f) Journal of Indira Gandhi Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences published by IGIMS, Patna, etc. This further justifies the need of a journal of IPGME&R, a centre of excellence, a premiere Medical institution of the India.

The journal is assigned to be published by M/S Wolters Kluwer formerly known as Medknow Publications, which is a renowned international publishing house and having the publisher of more than 250 of well circulated books and journals e.g., Ann Indian Acad Neuro, Ann Indian Acad Otorhinolaryngol Head Neck Surg, Indian J Community Med, Indian J Med Res, Indian J Nephrol, Indian J Ophthalmol etc in their credit.

The journey of our journal started in the month of January, 2021 and it has completed its first year of publication with three issues.
